Cycling along the River Leven

The first point to make is that the cycle path which runs along the side of the River Leven from Balloch, at the foot of Loch Lomond, to Dumbarton, where the Leven meets the Clyde, is of uniformly smooth tarmac.

The route passes through a mixture of scrubby countryside and small town decay but the natives were all friendly and it was well used by other cyclists.

I'm not sure who is being referred to in this next photo, but he seems to tick quite a few boxes.

Passed a heron in a field.

And then back to Balloch where there are a surprising number of boats tied up waiting for summer to come.

And of course the good old "Maid of the Loch" which has been out of commission for decades - a genuine example of a national disgrace.

The Maid of the Loch brings back so many memories for me.

  1. Enjoying the blogs again, I think there is a committee trying to resurrect the Maid, not too far from me today.

  2. We had thought of calling in but weren't sure where to come off the cycle path.

  3. I would need to check on that, maybe another time.
