Nathan Coley

The artist Nathan Coley installed an exhibition in Edinburgh (in 2004, I think) of dozens of model churches made from cardboard. The models sat on the floor and were all huddled together. I think that the models were all based on actual places of worship in Edinburgh.

Never a day goes by when I don't think of these models. The reason for that is because I recite the Lord's Prayer daily and in order to put the brakes on and not recite the words mindlessly, I force myself to  think of an image to illustrate each line of the prayer.

When I get to the line: "Thy kingdom come." I always bring to mind Nathan Coley's cardboard churches.

Anyway, I think it is the image of these models which lies behind my use of card to elaborate the rooftop of the ceramic building I'm currently working on.

Today, I added the housing for the motor which powers the building's lift.

Located the cuboid at the back.

But, I might locate it here.

I love Missy Elliott records. For reasons given in the episode of this blog on 14th February 2012, I always associate Missy Elliott with being in France.

Miscellany:

Our first long cycle run in the pouring rain.

After about an hour of cycling along this former railway track in the Scottish countryside, my wife suddenly lost control of her bike, swerved to the right, disappeared into the trees and landed in a ditch. She just lay there, limbs and branches and the cross members of her bike all interlocking.

Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photograph and she refused to re-construct the incident.

Sorry, I'll be more vigilant next time.
